Objective

Groups will be able to create and market a 30 second long animated movie using hand drawing techniques of their choice, Adobe Photoshop CS3 and Adobe After Effects CS3 that examines a topic regarding the social /clique culture and how it works, at HTHCV. *

 

*All animations will be compiled into one movie for all three classes.

 

Job Descriptions

Project Manager (PM)

The Project Manager (PM) is in charge of every aspect of the project. PM’s will be hired based on their qualifications. Following the hiring process PM’s will be in charge of assembling a team to meet the challenge of creating their animated piece.

PM responsibilities include:

  • Weekly Goal Setting for entire team
  • Daily Goal sets for entire team
  • Knowing how to accomplish every position
  • Meeting team deadlines
  • Attending all required PM meetings.

 

Audio Engineer (AE)

Audio engineers will be in charge of every aspect of audio creation and editing. Initially the Audio Engineer will be primarily recording all interviews. The Audio Engineer will then be in charge of creating the final 30 second clip that will be used for final piece.

AE responsibilities:

  • Knowing Audacity software
  • Working with artist and animator to design sound effects to work with final product
  • Knowing and meeting all AE due dates
  • Attending all required AE meetings

 

Artist

The artist is responsible for generating all finished art that will be used in the final animation. It is required that hand generated art is the basis for all designs used in the final animation.

Artist responsibilities:

  • Remaining consistent throughout process with style and materials
  • Knowing and meeting all art deadlines
  • Working with animator and audio engineer to create art that works with sound effects for final animation
  • Scanning all artwork for use in animation and separating and labeling all layers according to specifications
  • Attending all required artist meetings

 

Animator (s)

The animator(s) primary job is to compose the final piece. This means that the animator must work constantly with the group to create a piece that is consistent with chosen topic of study.

Animator responsibilities:

  • Knowing how to use Adobe After Effects according to project specifications
  • Knowing and meeting all animation deadlines & due dates
  • Working with artist and audio engineer to produce animation that works with their designs
  • Attending all required Animator Meetings

 

*It is possible to hire more than one person for any job except Project Manager. All will be required to work on the marketing campaign.

Proposal (All)

Materials Needed: Proposal Form

Draft 1Due April 23rd

·         15 questions (follows same interview requirements as Economy Proj.)

·         Brainstorm for 10 different ways for character design to connect to topic

·         Submitted to teacher for approval

Final Draft – Due April 29rd

·         Has made teacher requested changes ( if there are any)

·         Signed Proposal by Teacher

*Depending on how well Draft 1 looks teacher may choose, on a case by case basis, to skip a group from Draft 1 – Final Draft.

 

Weekly + Daily Goals (Project Manager)

Materials Needed: Computer & Weekly Goal File

Interview Audio Track (Audio Engineer + Group Leader)

Materials Needed:  Computer, Audacity & Proposal Form

Draft 1Due May 1st  

·         5-7 minutes of audio recorded

·         3 choices made for 30 second clip

·         5 possible sound effects recorded

Draft 2 – Due May 5th

·         #1 Choice for 30 second clip decided by group

 

Draft 2 continued

·         30 second clip is compiled

Final Draft – Due May 7th

Character Art (Artist)

Materials Needed: Hands, Photoshop, & Any Art Material of Choice

Practice DesignDue May 1st

·         Scanned elements drawn by hand into Photoshop on separated clearly labeled layers:

o   Background

o   Character

o   3 different eyes (open, half-opened, closed)

o   Separated eyebrows

o   At least 3 Different Mouths (Open, closed, “O” shape)

Draft 1 – Due May 5th

·         Sketch for design approved before draft 1 is started

·         Design of character connects to meaning of group chosen topic

·         Scanned elements drawn by hand into Photoshop on separated clearly labeled layers (elements same as above)

·         Submitted to teacher for approval

Final Draft – Due May 7th

·         Has made teacher requested changes ( if there are any)

·         Signed Character Design sheet by Teacher

 

Animation (Animator(s) & All)

Materials Needed: Computer, After Effects & Basics Tutorial (video and files)

Basics TutorialDue May 1st (All must complete by June 29)

·         Uses all Photoshop layers provided

·         Plays to the exact time of the 5 second long audio clip

·         Movements match sound to best of group’s ability

·         Saved, converted and posted to DP

Practice Animation – Due May 7th

·         Uses all art layers created by artist

·         Plays for 15 seconds (music or audio of choice)

·         Uses 1 motion effects

·         Movements match sound to best of group’s ability

·         Saved, converted and posted to DP

Draft 1 – Due May 15th

·         Uses all art layers created by artist

·         Plays for 30 seconds using audio created by Audio Engineers

·         Movements match sound to best of students ability

·         Uses 2 motion effects

·         Submitted to another group for critique & signed (Group & Teacher)

 

Draft 2 – Due May 21st

·         Movements match sound & effects to best of group’s ability

·         Submitted to teacher for approval

Final Draft – Due May 29th

·         Has made teacher requested changes

·         Movements MATCH sound & effects

·         Approved by teacher

·         Exported and submitted to teacher as a Quicktime movie (MISTERY STUDENT SAVE)

DP Stuff

·         Each member of group has segment worked on posted to their DP

·         Link to full “Clique This!” Movie

 

Marketing (Artist, Group Leader, Audio Eng.)

Materials Needed: Marketing Proposal Worksheet

Marketing Materials Phase 1 – Due May 14th

·         Filled out worksheet

·         Sketch for Movie Poster

o   Identifies Group Chosen Topic

o   Displays Movie Logo

o   Uses art relating to your topic

o   Identifies all group members

·         3 professionals that work in fields related to your topic are identified for possible invitation to online screening & exhibition assessment

·         First draft of letter to professionals created (business formal style)

·         All materials submitted to teacher for approval

Marketing Materials Phase 2 – Due May 19th

·         Draft 1 of poster due

·         Has made teacher requested changes to letter & proposal

·         Submitted all materials to teacher for approval

Marketing Materials Phase 3 – Due May 21st

·         Has made teacher requested changes to letter & poster design

·         Final poster approved by Teacher

·         Final Poster printed and hanged in designated spot in hallway

·         Final letter draft emailed/snail mailed to 3 professionals

 

Exhibition

Upon completion of group created animations, May 29th 2009, each animation will be compiled randomly to make the full movie “Clique This!: An Animated Dissection of High School Culture” On June 5th at 2:50 pm (advisory time), “Clique This!” will be aired for the first time in front of the entire school and on the web to the professionals contacted.
